Music theory and harmony is offered for students who wish to further their music training to a more advanced level. It is a course in the writing and reading mechanics of music. Basic skills such as part writing, ear training, musical analysis, chord structure, scale structure, improvisation, and style variations are studied in depth. The course is helpful to all music students in piano/keyboards, strings, brass and woodwinds, percussion, guitar and voice. The course may include field trip(s). This course is highly recommended for those planning to study music in college.

This course uses a textbook, Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory. The book is $14.00, which all participants need to purchase, as it is a workbook which they will write in and keep for future reference.
