Eugene
Goree and Scott Thomas Nominated for American General Mr. Football Awards
11-8-06
Senior defensive tackle Eugene Goree and senior
quarterback Scott Thomas have both been nominated for the American General Mr.
Football Award given every year to the best lineman and back in the State of
Tennessee. Eugene Goree is a two year starter for the Warriors and is the second
leading tackler through the first 10 games with 49 tackles, 7 tackles for loss
and 3 sacks. Goree is an anchor at his defensive tackle position on a Warrior
defense that is giving up less than 10 points per game and 2.8 yards per
rush. Scott Thomas has started at quarterback for the last two years and
led the Warriors to a semi-final berth in his first year as a Warrior starter.
Thomas has rushed for more than 1,743 yards and thrown for 1,558 yards and
accounted for 32 touchdowns in his two years as a starter for Riverdale. The
nomination of Thomas and Goree brings the total number of Mr. Football candidates
to 17 for the Warriors since 1992. There have been 8 Warriors that have gone on
to win this prestigious award.

Earns 7 of Top 11 Spots in The Murfreesboro Post's Top 10 Murfreesboro High
School Football Teams
11-8-06
Riverdale earned 7 of the top 11 spots in the
Murfreesboro Post's Top 10 Murfreesboro High School Football Teams.
The top team on the list is the 1970 Central High School team that was 12-0,
state champions, and signed 26 players to college scholarships. Riverdale
earned the next four spots with the 1994, 2004, 2001, and 1997 state
championship teams. Many have argued that the 1994 Warrior team was the best the
state has ever seen. This was the first team to bring home a state
championship to Warrior Drive. The 1994 team scored 66 points on the season with
their defense while giving up only 58 to their opponents all year and producing
7 shutouts. The 1994 Warriors beat Germantown in the old Clinic Bowl
14-10. The 2004 team can be compared with both the 1970 Central team and
the 1994 Riverdale team. The 2004 team scored 666 points for the season,
44 points per game, which is the most in school history. Their defense
held opponents scoreless in 9 games and gave up only 7 points per game.
Teams will always be compared to each other over history and discussed in
grocery stores and barber shops throughout the city of Murfreesboro. Which
one is the best? Only you can decide.

TSSAA Play-Off Possibilities
10-24-06
The TSSAA has posted all the
possibilities for the 2006 play-offs. There are not many possibilities in
four of the eight 5A regions and region 7-5A is set, but regions 5, 6, and 8 are
still a mess, with numerous scenarios to be played out this Friday. In
Region 4-5A Riverdale
is first and has secured home field advantage throughout the first four rounds.
The Smyrna vs. Lebanon winner is second and the loser is third. LaVergne
is fourth unless LaVergne loses and Oakland wins, in which case Oakland is
fourth.
