Warriors Rip Trojans in First Spring Scrimmage The Riverdale Warriors entered their first scrimmage of the spring with a few questions to answer. They passed the exam with a 90-14 pounding of 2003 4-A state runner-up Morristown West. Riverdale scored on 12 of their 16 possessions. The Warrior offense racked 891 yards with 11 different players scoring touchdowns. Eight of the Riverdale offensive drives finished with scores of 50 yards or more. The first offense scored on the first three possessions of the scrimmage. The first score came on a bootleg by senior quarterback Dave Thomas for 70 yards, followed a 37 yard run by senior running back Dernte Frazier. On the third series Dave Thomas hooked up with junior wide receiver Antwan Smith for a 56 yard bomb. The second offense could not get anything going on the next two series which ended in a punt followed by a fumble. The third offense got the fireworks going again for the Warriors with a 74 yard touchdown strike from sophomore quarterback Scott Thomas to sophomore wide receiver John Brookshire. On the next three drives the first offense scored on a nine yard pass from Dave Thomas to senior tight end Chris Perkins, a 61 yard scamper by junior running back Gaston Miller and a 65 yard screen pass from Thomas to senior wide receiver Rahmel Oliver. The second offense ripped the Trojans the next to series with a 70 yard run by junior running back Bryan Dilligard and a 65 yard run by sophomore running back Monte Newsom. The third offense put the tenth touchdown on the board with a 25 sweep by sophomore running back Chaz Ward. On the first play of the next drive the first offense made their first mistake of the day when a Dave Thomas pass was intercepted at the Warrior 35 yard line. Morristown West took advantage of the turnover and scored their second touchdown of the scrimmage. On the next drive junior wide receiver Phillip Stevenson took a Scott Thomas bubble pass 62 yards to the end zone. The third offense turned the ball over on downs on the next drive. Then the first offense ended the barrage with a drive that was capped off by a 18 yard run for Derente Frazier's second score of the day. The defense scored the final touchdown of the scrimmage when Terrance Savannah scooped a Trojan fumble and returned it 38 yards to the end zone. Shayne Rollins was perfect on all 12 of his extra point attempts. |
